Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center: The museum has exhibits on Carson Valley history, the Washoe people and natural history, as well as agricultural implements, early printing instruments and historic telephones. The black and white photography of Juanita Schubert is on display through June 30. The center is also home to the Carson Valley Historical Society office, a gift shop and the East Fork Art Gallery. Hours are 10am to 5pm daily. Closed on holidays. Suggested admission donation is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Located at 1477 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. For information call 775-782-2555.

Childrens Museum of Northern Nevada: The Information Station is the latest exhibit to be added to the museum and features brand new technology for the Internet using Kids World Network Content Managed Gateway which provides safe surfing zones for children. Includes redesigned toddler area with Lego table and Fisher-Price toys, new dress-up area, new Smith's Grocery Store and a new castle of mirrors location. The museum has a walking piano, King Khety's tomb where kids can dig for artifacts, the shadow room and a human kaleidoscope. A 22-foot wall illustrates the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. 813 N. Carson St, Carson City. 10am-4:30pm Monday-Friday; 10am-5:30pm Saturday and Sunday. Churchill County Museum: The museum's ongoing exhibits include a display on the Newlands Irrigation Project, the first ever reclamation project of its kind nationally. Other exhibits show Indian American life at the Stillwater marsh, featuring a Tule hut, and pioneer life, including a display of people crossing the Overland Trail through the 40-mile desert from Lovelock to Fallon. More than 300 titles on Nevada history and videos produced by the museum are available at the bookstore. On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, the Bureau of Land Management guides a free tour inside Hidden Cave. Meet at the museum at 9:30am. The museum is located at 1050 S. Donner Memorial State Park & Emigrant Trail Museum: The park is off Interstate 80 near Truckee on Donner Lake and has a museum and a bronze monument dedicated to the Donner Party Expedition of 1846-47. The hours are 10am to 4pm. Ticket prices are $2 for adults, $1 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children younger than 6. Swimming, pedal-boat and inner tube rentals, beach volley ball, barbecue and picnic areas with public restrooms are all welcome activities. For more information call 530-582-7892.

Fitzgerald's Lucky Forest & Antique Slot Display: An intriguing collection of "luck" objects from around the world, including the only Blarney Stone to leave Ireland! Fourth Ward School Museum: Newly renovated, this unique museum is located on the main floor of a Victorian school building. Its four class rooms feature numerous historical displays. Located at South C Street, Virginia City. For information call 775-847-0975.

Gatekeeper's Log Cabin: This museum houses a collection of early Tahoe memorabilia including beautiful handwoven Indian baskets. Located next to Fanny Bridge at the "Y" intersection, Tahoe City, CA. For information call 530-583-1762.

Genoa Courthouse Museum: Constructed in 1865 as the Douglas County Courthouse, the museum includes exhibits of a blacksmith shop, schoolroom, pioneer kitchen and a Washoe Indian display. Revolving art shows are also featured. Located at Main Street, Genoa. For information call 775-782-4325.

Great Basin Adventure: An adventure to explore! Enjoy panning for gold or riding the Log Flume. Visit the Discovery Room where children can dress up in various period costumes. The Arboretum and Botanical Gardens are a floral retreat in which to relax. The adventure park features dinosaurs and pony rides. The center is open 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, and noon-5pm Sunday. Liberty Belle Slot Machine Collection: Located inside one of the area's most popular restaurants, this fascinating collection includes an 1895 dice machine, the first draw poker machine made in 1901, a 1905 nickel gambling clock and the first dollar slot machine made in 1929. The restaurant offers lunch and dinner daily. Enjoy steak, prime rib, chicken, lobster tail, crab legs and other seafood dishes. Liberty Engine Company: Built in 1876, this structure became the Storey County Fire Department in the 1930's. It now serves as a firehouse museum with a collection of original Comstock Lode fire fighting apparatus and memorabilia. Located at 51 South C Street, Virginia City. Mark Twain's Museum of Memories: Beloved author and satirist Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain, lived for several years in Virginia City. It was, in fact, one of his favorite haunts. Commemorating his mining town career, the museum offers memorabilia, period artifacts and exhibits of Virginia City's history. Located at South C Street, Virginia City. Marshall Mint and Museum: The museum features a private mineral collection that includes gold specimens from the Comstock and other Nevada and California mining areas, as well as a collection of gem crystals from around the world. Visitors also can watch the Marshall Mint press gold and silver coins and jewelry items. Admission is by donation. The museum is located on C Street in Virginia City. Military Heritage Museum: Exhibits from the Revolutionary War era to the Persian Gulf War rotate through the museum. On display are uniforms, flags, photos and other American military memorabilia at Reno Veterans Administration Medical Center, 1000 Locust Street, Reno. Hours of operation are 8am to 4:30pm daily. Mormon Station State Historic Park: This was the location of Nevada's first permanent white settlement. The museum, housed in an early 1800's log cabin, includes artifacts from 1851 through the early 1900's. Picnic facilities available. Located at Foothill Road & Genoa Lane, Genoa. National Automobile Museum: Over 200 antique, vintage, classic and special interest automobiles on display, fully restored and in mint condition! A tribute to America's love of the automobile. Open 9:30am to 5pm daily, 10am to 4pm Sunday, except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Admission: $7.50 Seniors: $6.50 Children 6-18: $2.50 free 5 and under. Nevada Historical Society - Lew Hymers Art on Display: The Art of Lew Hymers is on display through September 30. The museum has a research library, a changing exhibits gallery and a museum store. The research library is open from noon-4pm Tuesday through Saturday. The museum and store are open from 10am - 5pm Monday through Saturday. Admission is free. 1650 N. Virginia St, Reno. Nevada Historical Society Museum: The museum has a research library, a changing exhibits gallery and a museum store. Never before exhibited photos of the Comstock in its heyday will be on display through May. Albumen silver prints, as well as photos by local studio photographers and camera-club members will be exhibited. The research library is open noon to 4pm. Tuesday through Saturday. Nevada Museum of Art: "All that is Glorious: Paintings from the Hudson River School" displayed Feb 11 through Sept 3. Admission is $5; $3 for students and seniors; $1 for children 12 and under. Nevada State Library and Archives: The work of Harold LaVigne, a professor at Western Nevada Community College, are on display in the Reference Room Gallery through January 28. Nevada State Museum: Completed in December of 1869 and built entirely from materials native to Nevada, this historic building served as a U.S. Mint, coining over $49 million in gold and silver until 1893. From 1899 to 1933, it was the Federal Assay Office. Today it stands as the most extensive and absorbing museum in the State, featuring mineral exhibits, antiques, natural history displays, dioramas, a full size replica of a ghost town and an underground mine. Robert House Museum: This is a fully-restored Victorian home available for tours and weddings. The building was brought to Carson on the V&T rails from Washoe City in 1875. Displays include original Victorian furniture, maps, historic photographs and a hat collection with top hats, derbies and trail-riding bonnets from emigrants. On the first Saturday and Sunday of the month, a craft and collectible sale is held in the yard. Tour cost is suggested donation of $3 for adults and $1 for children. Sierra Nevada Children's Museum: Learn how a home is built from foundation to completion, pound nails and design decor at the museum's "Mountain Home Construction" exhibit. At the listening center, kids can perform on stage or play the piano. offers several workshops for children. Admission is $3. Museum hours are 10am to 4pm Wednesday through Saturday. Sparks Heritage Museum: Ongoing exhibits at the museum feature items from Sparks' history, a Great Basin Native American display and local memorabilia. Hours are from 11am to 4pm Tuesday through Friday and from 1-4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. The museum is located at 820 Victorian Ave. in Sparks. For information call 775-355-1144.

Stewart Indian Museum: Featuring a permanent display of E.S. Curtis photogravures, various Indian grinding stones, baskets and a Stewart Indian School exhibit. Tahoe Tessie's Lake Tahoe Monster Museum: That's right, "Nessie" in Loch Ness has a cousin in Lake Tahoe..."Tessie!" See displays, exhibits and artifacts. Eyewitness Monster Sightings. The Childrens Museum Storytimes: The Childrens Museum will hold childrens storytimes. There will also be an adult crafts class at 10:30am on Thursdays. $3 for adults, $2 kids ages 3-13. Childrens Museum of Northern Nevada, Inc, 813 N. Carson St, Carson City. For information call 775-884-2226.

Trail of the '49ers Interpretive Center: A full-size model of a covered wagon is featured, along with exhibits on pioneer life, a computer simulation of the Oregon Trail, and a large screen television playing videos of 19th century frontier life. The Center's research library has nearly 500 volumes of diaries and pioneering books. Book and gift shop features publications on Nevada and the West, as well as replicas of pioneer toys. Hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays; 10am to 4pm on Saturday; and 12-4pm on Sunday. Admission is free. The museum is located in Battle Mountain. Way It Was Museum: Dedicated to the mining industry, this museum features the most complete collection of Comstock artifacts plus rare photos, lithos and maps of the Bonanza period. A 16 minute video describing the history of the Comstock Lode is also offered. Located at 113 North C Street, Virginia City. For information call 775-847-0766.

Western American Ski Museum: This museum houses historical exhibits of the sport spanning from the 1850's to present day. Vintage ski films are shown in the theater. Located at Boreal Ridge Ski Resort (past Donner Lake on Interstate 80). For information call 530-426-3313.
